Losing Bonus Point Secured in Battling \display

CN Emlyn Youth 7 Lampeter Youth 10

Emlyn welcomed Lampeter to Dol Wiber for a Friday evening fixture, which was plaayed on a heavy windswept pitch.

The match started with uncontested scrums at the request of the visitors. Emlyn had to re-arrange their starting line up due to the unavailablity of four flank forwards for a variety of reasons.

The match started with both teams attacking their opponents at every opportunity with Lampeter in the ascendancy during the initial exchanges. The strong wind meant that both teams adopted to kick towards the near touchline, which produced a series of lineouts.

The commitment of the defences of both teams meant that the initial exchanges failed to produce any score. Lampeter produced a series of forward charges led by their No.8 Gareth Isaac, closely followed by his team mates. Aled Jones the home number 8 counter attacked with some fine drives, ably supported by his back row colleagues Tomos Rees and Dafydd James.

On 20 minutes the deadlock was broken with a fine score. Good field position was gained through a raking kick into the 22 by Crwys Rees. The Emlyn pack secured possession on the 22 and the ball was fed to centre Llew Morgan who darted over for a well worked try, which was ably converted by fellow centre Daniel Jones.

The second half commenced with the visitors introducing prop John Heath and his introduction seemed to galvanise their pack.the Lampeter pack produced a series of driving mauls, which produced two unconverted tries, both scored wide out on the left hand side of the pitch. Lampeter controlled most of the territory during the second half but were thwarted by some fine tackling from the home team. One crunching tackle made by wing Mathew Rollins on his opponent stood out during the second half in a game played in fine spirits.

During the half Emlyn bravely tried to counter attack and produce the winning score but they were thawrted by some committed defence from their opponents. The Emlyn cause was not assisted when they lost the services of their second row Richard Jones following an infringement at the breakdown.

The Emlyn team will be disappointed not to have produced a home win and the losing bonus point secured will be of little consolation.

The team now moves forward to their next game on 17/01/15 Away at Kidwelly.
